Congratulations to the PVA 17s on their fifth place (tie) finish in the 17 Club division at the JVDA Championships in Louisville, KY! The team finished the event with a 10-2 record, played very strong for nearly every match, but struggled in the quarterfinals on the last day. PVA 18s are Happy Volley Champions!

PVA 18s entered Happy Volley as the defending champions and held their #1 seed to become 2-time Champions of Happy Volley! Throughout the weekend, they were undefeated and only let 2 games go to their opponents.

Their finish led PVA to a "third overall" club finish for the weekend!

This was the last tournament for the 18s team and the last club event for the 10 seniors. We wish all of the PVA seniors the best of success with their collegiate careers!

15 Navy at Happy Volley

The 15 Navy team finished their season at Penn State over Memorial Day Weekend. Friday night they tied for 3rd in their pool and then battled out "come from behind" wins in both tie-breaker games to earn 1st place in the pool. The girls really worked hard and used a series of very tough serves to over-come a 0-8 defecit in the 2nd tie-breaker! They were rewarded not only with a great win, but also with a team photo with two of the Penn State players!

PVA congratulates the 15 Navy parents and players for a season of hard work, enthusiasm and commitment!

We extend a special thank you to coaches Kara & Kim for their effort, skill and enthusiasm!

Go PVA 15 Navy!

15 White Happy Volley wrap up

PVA 18s Bid & Regionals Report

PVA 18s competed in the KRVA Bid Tournament on May 2nd & 3rd in Williamsport, PA. Despite some tough matches, the team was able to reach the semi-finals in the Gold bracket by winning an exciting quarter-final match over Synergy LV 18s. When the team ran out of subs at the end of game 2, DS/Setter Justine McNulty, at 5'4", stayed in the rotation and came in to play middle in the front row - and saved the win for PVA!

The PVA 18s participated in the KRVA Open Regional Championships on May 9th at Penn State University. Despite missing 2 players, they swept their pool and then lost a tough match against Valley Forge in the semi-finals to finish tied for 3rd overall.

The 18s will finish their 2009 season (and club volleyball careers) at the Happy Volley Championships over Memorial Day weekend in State College, PA.

Go PVA 18s!

PVA 17s Bid Report

PVA 17s competed in the KRVA Bid Tournament on May 2nd & 3rd in Williamsport, PA. The team went "all out" for the PVA Social and certainly out-dressed the rest of us (see photo)! In the gym, they had some great matches and beat CAVA and Xceleration very convincingly. Unfortunately, they had a tough loss in a close match against Valley Forge in the quarter-finals.

The 17s compete this weekend in Greensboro, NC in the MAPL #4 and then play over Memorial Day weekend in the Happy Volley Championships in State College, PA.

The 17s will complete their season with a trip to Louisville, KY the end of June to compete in the JVDA Championships.

Go PVA 17s!

PVA 15 Navy Bid & Regionals Report

PVA 15 Navy competed in the KRVA Bid Tournament on May 2nd & 3rd in Williamsport, PA. The weekend got a rocky start, most likely due to a new rotation because of injuries, but Sunday ended on a high note. "The girls really came together as a team and played awesome," reports Coach Kara. "I was so proud of them for rising to the challenge and working hard." The team reached the semi-finals of the Silver bracket and finished tied for 9th overall in a tough field of teams.

PVA 15 Navy competed in the KRVA Open Regional Championships on May 10th at Penn State University with Assistant Coach Kim taking over the reigns. Despite challenges due to injuries, the team again battled into the semi-finals of the Silver bracket. PVA is proud of the girls for their effort and enthusiasm!

The team competes in their final event of the 2009 season at the Happy Volley Championships over Memorial Day weekend in State College, PA.

14s Bid Report

The PVA 14s team experienced their first KRVA Bid Tournament on May 2nd & 3rd in Williamsport, PA. The travel tournament was a fun and challenging experience, starting with an impromtu round of musical chairs during the PVA Social on Friday night. The 14s played in the "dome" along with the 17s & 18s, so it was fun to be able to watch the older girls play. The girls played a lot of volleyball and had some great moments! After 2 days of volleyball, they advanced to the semi-finals of the silver division and finished tied for 7th overall against a lot of strong competition. PVA is proud of the team's effort and enthusiasm! We especially liked what Coach Joann calls the "matrix move" they do together whenever they make a kill (see photo with this article).

The 14s play their last event of the 2009 season at the Happy Volley Championships over Memorial Day weekend in State College, PA.

Go PVA 14s!

NEQ Results

In a long-overdue report, PVA reflects on the club's results at the NorthEast Qualifier held in Baltimore, MD April 10-12 and 17 -19. The above photo is off the 15 White team at the NEQ.

The younger teams played in the first weekend. The 14s had their first national qualifier experience and finished tied for 40th in the 14 club division. 15 Navy tied for 39th and 15 White tied for 53rd in the 15 club division. Many of the PVA players made the holiday weekend a family event and took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy time with their families in the gym and off the court.

The older teams played in the second weekend of competition. The 17s braved the open division and by the luck of the draw ended up in arguably the toughest first-day pool of the division. They hung in there and finished the weekend in 26th place.

The 18s teams had a great weekend and were one win short of earning a bid in the club division. They finished tied for 5th place.

PVA 18s mentioned on PrepVolleyball.com

PVA 18s team and several players were mentioned in the PrepVolleyball.com March 19 "Court Report". PrepVolleyball.com is a national club and high school volleyball discussion forum and includes additional features such as rankings, court reports from large tournaments, player articles, etc.

"PVA 18s finished tied for 5th, with two big wins over Clash 17 and Piedmont 17 and a very close loss to Triangle 18. Fast-improving Kassi Wirth, a 6-2 unsigned senior middle, showed herself to be a great blocker, coming up with big stuffs throughout the tournament for PVA. 5-9 OH Alexa Campbell, another unsigned senior, scored at will from the outside off of just about every block she faced. Meredith Riddell, a 6-0 RS, seemed to put balls away for every game point…PVA 18s, which finished in the bottom third at the first MAPL, has finished in the Gold the past two and could be a tough team to beat in the club division at NEQ and in Keystone Region."

In Today's paper....

The Central Delco edition of the weekly TownTalkNews that was published today contains a picture of some PVA 14s players on page 16.

Despite our best efforts to identify players' hometowns when submitting the photo, the caption under the picture is not quite right. A little PVA trivia -- which player is actually a Swarthmore resident?

You can only see this photo in the print paper (it's not available online), which means you'd have to live in central delco to get it.....so I've also included it below.

In other news - the PVA 14s and 15Navy team compete on Saturday and we wish them good luck and safe travels!

PVA Invitational

PVA hosted the PVA Invitational on Jan. 17th & 18th at Villanova University. Despite the near-record low temps outside, the competition on the courts was pretty intense! We hosted 28 teams along with their family members. We also had college coaches attending from at least 68 different colleges. A full list of tournament results as well as a list of college coaches in attendance can be found at the PVA Invitational website. The success of this tournament occurred in no small part because of the many contributions of PVA's families and coaches. Again, thank you!

PVA is proud to report that our 18s team finished 8th and our 17s team finished 4th. Congrats to Alexa Campbell for being named to the 18s All-Tournament Team! Congratulations also go out to Mariah Henley and Megan Lowry for being named to the 17s All-Tournament Team!
